Real Karate hits the big screen (twice)

First, this isn’t a brand new thing, although I think it deserves one more look at it.

In 2007 was released a Japanese movie, entitled  “Kuro Obi” (English title is “Black Belt”), and its fame spread incredibly fast among the Karate community all over the world.

My temporary office view

office_windowIn the following weeks, this is what I’ll see through my temporary office window. An imense blue highway leading simultaneously to nowhere and everywhere, framed by half-naked hot-blooded human beings with cold-blood animal bevhaviour, moving in turns from warming up under a hell burning sun to cooling down in a polar frost water. These very same people spend the whole year covered with fashionable clothes, trying to look good for multiple purposes, but every year they culminate by striping down and exposing they bare skin to every one’s watching eyes.

Which leg moves to Yoi position in SKIF katas?

Accordingly to sensei Kanazawa’s interpretation of karate katas, the leg moving towards the other isn’t always the same. The rule of thumb I was told was that the leg that moves is the one which moves in the kata’s first movement. That seems to work, except for two katas: Tekki Shodan and Chinte. In both, it’s the right leg that moves toward the left, however, it’s the left leg that firstly moves in the kata. Read more of Which leg moves to Yoi position in SKIF katas?

Merging several PDF files into a single one

This command makes possible to join several PDF files into a single one using Ghostscript. Try to do the following in the command line:

gs -dBATCH -q -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sOutputFile=outputfile.pdf inputfile-1.pdf inputfile-2.pdf (...) inputfile-n.pdf

It has also the advantage to reduce size of the resulting PDF, even if you use only one input file.
