Kanazawa kancho was always apologist of putting the art of using Okinawan weapons, or Kobudo, alongside Shotokan Karate, which not being a “true” traditional Okinawan style has it roots deeply planted in it. He usually uses the analogy of Karate and Kobudo being two wheels of a cart, thus one could not exist without the other. In the 70’s, Kanazawa published books and articles on Nunchaku training, and he has his own katas, and now a Bo (long staff) kata DVD was released under his supervision.
I first saw it on the 100th issue of Shotokan Karate Magazine, reporting that a new DVD was being released, featuring sensei Seamus O’Dowd demonstrating two katas, Kanazawa no Bo Dai and Sho, with the supervision of the Kanazawa Kancho himself, and assistance of Nobuaki Kanazawa sensei.
