I came across this advertisement. Take 1 minute watching it. 1/3 of the ad is describing the product, pills for helping you to fall asleep and stay asleep, while the others 2/3 of the ad is about the side effects! I think it’s hilarious!

Today I went to a huge  guitar shop in the city, with an idea in mind: try out the Paul Reed Smith SE Custom 24. I already had some thing in consideration before stepping into the store: 1) the tuners were to be replaced; 2) They were not a true Custom 24 made in USA.

Fortunately, they were exposed right in front of the entrance door. this could mean something. I plugged in the guitar in the amp, turn the volume knob all the way up, and baaahm!!!  a sweet sound came out of it. The pickups could be better, but they were okay. Then the real analysis began:

The action was fine for my personal taste, volume and tone knobs offered a very nice response; the 2 pickups, plus knobs, offered a very nice range of sounds; the scale lenght was also nice, but then… What was that in the back of the neck? It looked like a brick! I couldn’t belive that such a guitar could have such rough piece of wood right in the neck/body junction. This fact makes almost unpracticable to reach higher frets.

All my dreams of having a PRS at this very stage just vanished right there… even the cheapest (half price of these)  guitars have a very nice gentle cut, and from PRS, I just could believe it.

I was almost sold to that guitar, but that was it. Maybe I’ll give it a second chance if the price drop a bit, or keep saving for a real PRS.

It looks like that the policy about copyrights and copylefts are changing. Everyday we watch television and listened to the radio, and what do you pay for that? Nothing but the cable monthly fee, but that’s independent of what the networks broadcast. They somehow manage to air copyrighted material but that’s completely transparent to the final consumer.

Musicians (read record labels) were especially concerned about the piracy over the web, because, in my understanding, people could hear their moneymakers for free. Well, but didn’t we did the same with tv and radio? Why would the web be different?

The web as been seen as a black sheep withing the media, but fortunately business men are getting real. I guess they finalize realized that the web could be advantageous rather than a “crime scene”. As a sign of that changing, some musicians started to release material for free, or even exclusively, in teir websites. Of course that’s not premeditated, but they finally are stopping blaming the spectator.

A brand new thing, at least was for me, was one of my fav shows, almost completely available on youtube.com, in a legal and legitim way:

Some episodes are missing, but ok, it’s better than nothing! And guess what, it has advertisements in between, just like in traditional tv!

Well, world in much more happy now

Stop burning CD/DVD’s right now, unless you really need. This is what you have to do to mount an ISO image from a CD, DVD or floppy. Make sure you have persmissions to mount (start a session as root, run “su”, or use sudo… whatever works for you)

First create a mount point, for instance:
mkdir -p /mnt/iso

Then mount the file in that directory with:
mount -o loop disk1.iso /mnt/iso

That’s all! now the content of the ISO file (the same file structure you would find in a burnt media support) is availabe in your filesystem.
